Not a week goes by where my husband and I aren't woken up in the middle of the night to a sweet voice saying,
"Momma, I had a bad dream, can I sleep with you and daddy?"
We used to say "sure honey" and they'd hope into bed with us...the result? Ryan and I didn't get ANY sleep. We learned quickly that our boys are VIOLENT little sleepers! We were getting kicked and pushed all night...
So although we'd love to say yes, we know better now....plus, we're in a queen and it's barely big enough for us (especially when I'm pregnant and if you haven't noticed yet, I'm pregnant more often than I'm not!)
We pull it out, throw the pillow on (also under the bed) grab a blanket (yep, that's under there too), say a prayer with them and roll back over to sleep.
It used to be a huge hassle. We'd either spend 30 minutes convincing them to go back to their bed (without crying so they didn't wake up the siblings in the room) or 10 minutes setting up a makeshift bed on our floor for them.
But now it's much more simple...they're even at the point that they'll just come down, pull the bedding out and fall asleep with us never even knowing they came down (until morning when we almost trip over them!)
It works for me!!...Anything to simply life and get everyone to sleep a little better is a blessing around here!

great idea!
This isn't going to surprise you but I could have written that post! Its so true that the little ones get so used to it that sometimes you don't realize they came in until you step on them! ;) Hmm, now I'll think of you tonight while I pull out what I lovingly refer to as the "children's pallet" .. Nitey Nite!
Yep, us too! We don't have a bed under our bed, but one right beside it. And there is a child in it every night ;)
I used to grab a pillow and sleeping back and sneak into my parents room when I was little :) I was often SO scared and like your boys I was a kicker in my sleep so I'd sleep on the floor and they'd never notice. I was so touched by the idea that you pray with them and not just shrug off their fears like most parents. I am sure that means more than you'll ever know to them. Speaking from expirience those fears and nightmares are so real and sometimes only God's love and Mom & Dads presence can make it better :-) I enjoy this blog so much!
LOVE this idea!!
Great idea. We've done that when we had sickies before. But we have a King bed, so there is room, though that doesn't mean we want them sleeping with us either. Ha.
Us also! ;)
Wow! That's awesome and a fabulous idea! We're lucky enough that Evan's still in a crib so we have yet to experience the wanting to get in bed with us thing! Besides, I don't see him actually falling asleep in our bed anyway, he gets all excited and moves around a lot! haha!
I love this idea and have used it in the past but thanks for the reminder!

That's so cute!
Our kids don't do it very often, but when they do come to us in the night, we lay hands on them and pray for them. Then they go back to bed.
Maybe b/c there are so many siblings to comfort them, but we rarely have anyone ask to sleep with us. I love it when they do though.
